Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to be outgoing to be good at direct sales. Shy people have just as much success in party plan as the extroverts.

Here’s 7 Tips for Shy People in Direct Sales:

  1. Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to be outgoing to be good at direct sales
  2. Use cue cards or notes as support while running your party
  3. You can be SHY & CONFIDENT at the same time
  4. Pour your energy into skill building to create show-stopping success at your party
  5. Tell your party guests that you feel shy…. they will want to support you
  6. Visualize yourself running a successful party
  7. Do work on projecting your voice, making eye contact & smiling at every guest for best results

(1) Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to be outgoing to be good at direct sales

Too many people with huge potential for success in party plan have been afraid of starting a direct sales business because of the myth that says only outgoing people are great in this business.  Don’t believe that!  Direct Sales Success is about building relationships, trust and communication with our party guests; many of our party guests are shy people too!  And the truth is that people connect with and feel comfortable with people who are similar to themselves.  So there is plenty of potential for shy people to succeed and book parties with other shy people in direct sales.

(2) Use cue cards or notes as support while running your party

Shyness is often equated to feeling nervous.  If you feel nervous when standing in front of a group of party guests, use cue cards, notes or even our 10 step party plan memory flip book as a way of remembering exactly what to do and say at every step of you party.  Your party guests won’t mind you glancing occasionally at your notes.  This can even become a team-building technique, because a party guest who is watching you run the party and wondering if she can do what you do, will feel comforted by the fact that you don’t need to remember everything off the top of your head before you can join the business.

(3) You can be SHY & CONFIDENT at the same time

I’ll let you in on a little secret …. “I am shy too!” In fact, just yesterday, I had my non-party-plan-friend Lindy watch one of my facebook live videos and she messaged me saying,

“I am watching your video on FB and you are so out there and so confident. I love it!  It’s amazing as in person you are so quiet!”

Confidence and shyness are two different things.  You can still be true to your shy nature, but be confident in what you do when running a party or a sponsor meeting.  Confidence comes with building your skill set, practicing what you are learning and becoming better and better with every party you do. Personality has nothing to do with confidence.  But confidence has everything to do with running a great party to get more sales, bookings & recruits.

(4) Pour your energy into skill building to create show-stopping success at your party

Skills get results. The more skills you can develop to practice at your parties, the faster you will become great as a party plan consultant.  Shy people often have an outstanding ability to focus and learn… that’s where you can shine bright in the party plan world.  Start building your party skills to perfection by working on learning the 10 Steps of a Party here on our blog: www.partyplan123.com/10-steps-party

(5) Tell your party guests that you feel shy…. they will want to support you

I remember when I was starting a new job and had to talk to customers and I was really nervous; my boss told me to tell people that it was my first day/week/month on the job.  When I shared that  information with my customers, I found that they were really forgiving of any mistakes I made and even wanted to make me feel comfortable and support me.  It’s the same when it comes to you as a shy person running your parties.  You may find that by telling your party guests that you feel shy, it will give you a sense of calm and in return, you will find your party guests wanting to help you do a great job and compliment you at the end of the party.  And that is going to give you a confidence boost!

(6) Visualize yourself running a successful party

While I was driving to my parties, I would visualize myself running a successful party; I would see myself standing up in front of all the party guests, looking confident even though in my stomach I might be feeling nervous. I imagined finishing that party with the results of a new team member recruited, 2 new party bookings and $1000 in sales!

This is what author Stephen Covey calls “Begin with the end in mind.”

(7) Do work on projecting your voice, making eye contact & smiling at every guest for best results

The reality is that shy people tend to speak with a quiet voice & feel a little awkward when making eye contact with people we don’t know very well…. and these traits are NOT good when it comes to success in direct sales.  It will help us tremendously to work consciously on the following 3 things at every party we do:

  1. Speak with a voice that is loud enough for every party guest to hear clearly while presenting
  2. Make eye contact with every single guest as we are running the party
  3. Smile warmly at each person from time to time to make them feel noticed, special and comfortable

Wishing every single shy person success in direct sales beyond your wildest dreams.  Don’t let anyone EVER tell you that you have to be outgoing to be good at direct sales. Shy people have just as much success in party plan as the extroverts.

Embrace your shyness & go out to do your parties with confidence,
