Here’s how to book parties into the next 3 weeks, that go ahead!
Hello, my party planners and direct sellers! I would like to talk to you about The Direct Sales Bookings Funnel today, which will hopefully help you get your parties successfully dated in within a maximum of three weeks away. I also want to demonstrate why you should never book your parties more than three weeks ahead, but first thing’s first!

Book your parties sooner, rather than later
Now, as soon as your hostess says yes to booking a party with you, the next thing you should do is choose their party date. The crucial step here is to have your monthly planner in front of you so you can offer your FIRST TWO available dates for your hostess to choose from.
We want to get this party dated in within the maximum of two to three weeks away and one of the reasons is that, statistically, more parties go ahead this way. You’ll have more guests showing up because:
a) it is easier for your hostess to organize people to come the sooner the event is, and
b) there’s less time for things to get complicated which is so common in life.
It’s common sense when you think about it – if you book a party for two months ahead, your hostess needs to get everyone to save the date now and then re-contact the guests at some point before the party to remind them of the event and to confirm their attendance. Also, things get complicated and the more time until the actual party, the more likely it is that unplanned things will happen so a number of guests might be prevented from attending.
Of course, there’s no need to point out that more parties and guests mean more sales, bookings, sponsor leads; in a word – more business for you!
And if you’re thinking now, “Well, Melanie, I have some trouble to get my hostesses to choose a date that’s only two or three weeks away,” you’re in luck, for I’m going to demonstrate how you can ‘funnel’ them to choose a date within the said 2-3 weeks period!
Funneling Process
It couldn’t be easier! As soon as your hostess says Yes! to booking a party with you, come forward with 2 alternative options!
“Now Rebecca, would you prefer to do a weekday or a weekend to get together?” Let’s imagine she says, “I prefer it to be a weekend.”
Here you do your “funneling magic” – look at your bookings calendar, and narrow it down a little bit more for Rebecca, “So, the next spot I’ve got available is this Saturday or Sunday the following weekend.” So basically, you’re narrowing it down for them to two different days as an option.
If Rebecca says “Oh, Saturday might be a little bit too soon; can we go for the next Sunday?” all you can do is agree!
“Absolutely! Now, what would you prefer – to do a morning or an afternoon party?”
And Rebecca might say, “Oh, let’s do an afternoon party; that’s always nice!” after that you should offer 2 possible appointments, “So Rebecca, what’s best for you – I usually start my afternoon parties at either 2:00 PM or 2:30 PM?”
And whatever Rebecca says, you have your party booked for a specific date within 2-3 weeks away and you have even specified the hours with your hostess!
“Great! Rebecca, I’ve got you in there for the next Sunday at 2:30 in the afternoon. I’m going to get your hostess pack so that you’ve got some beautiful invitations that you can hand out to your friends and I can’t wait to help you get some free gifts as my next hostess!”
What we’ve done here were alternate choice questions, and that’s the main principle of bookings funnel – “Would you prefer this one or that one?” Both alternatives imply a yes answer. And the decision-making process is so much faster and easier when choosing between 2 options!
It’s as simple as that!
Bookings Funnel Demonstration
Now, to demonstrate why the above story is important and how choosing the right date can affect your business, let’s compare 2 consultants, Joanne and Samantha. They are both similarly efficient when it comes to their parties – they get 2 bookings per party on average; the only difference is that Samantha dates those parties in further away (3-5 weeks) and Joanne arranges all of her bookings within the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Abracadabra (does some math)! and it is obvious that by the 11th week Samantha is looking at only 9 bookings, while Joanne is looking at 26 bookings!
That’s around 1 booking per week for Samantha, and 3-4 bookings per week for Joanne! You tell me who you would choose to be…. JOANNE of course! – Joanne ends up with far more bookings, more sales, more business… simply because the date she chose for her new hostess was sooner rather than later!
