Secrets on how to set goals in the world of direct sales and party plan.

Welcome 2021!  For you as a Party Plan Consultant, that means getting ready to start sharing your great products with everyone you know and finding new hostesses who love to get products for free for having an in-home party.

But before you go bolting out the door with an armful of catalogs to show everyone in your neighborhood, or ring every single customer you’ve ever had and ask them if they will book a party with you to help you kick-start the new year, take a moment to get the basics right first….

Here’s how to start 2021 with the right FOCUS for success in direct sales:

If you want to get somewhere, first you’ve got to know where you want to go, then you figure out how to get there.  In party plan that means knowing what you need to earn to have the lifestyle you desire, knowing how many parties you need to do per week to earn that income and then deciding on what it will take and what you are prepared to do to get there!  And yes, it’s going to take good old-fashioned work to get there.

Let’s be clear here, if someone has given you the impression that party plan is just so easy, you just show a few products and you magically make tonnes of money and become a millionaire, then I’m sorry, but you do still have to work.  But if you do work, the rewards can be unbelievable!  Dani Johnson, who is a world-wide speaker in direct sales, who went from being homeless to being a millionaire from her direct sales business says that people come to her asking “Why isn’t my business working?”  And she holds nothing back when she says to them with passion, “It’s because YOU are not working!”  Oh, I love how straight forward she can be, it’s really quite funny.  But they’re words that we all need to hear sometimes….. You will be paid and rewarded very generously for the work that you do!

So getting back to goals and knowing the income you need….  Have you decided what you are worth per hour?  Do it!  Decide what you are worth per hour, then take on a double identity where you are both the boss and the employee; work with the mentality of being the perfect employee who earns that hourly income and choose to be your own boss!

I have a question for you?  Have you ever set goals in your party plan business & written it down?  If not, then that’s OK!  I’m not here to reprimand you but you do now have a choice of what you do to succeed in your business from today forward.  You may have heard it said that the people who have a goal and write it down have are far more likely to achieve that goal.  And now that you know that, now that you are educated and informed, I encourage you to go follow through on this idea for yourself.

So here’s some really simple questions to help you set your first party plan business goal.  We’re going to calculate exactly how many parties a week you personally need to have booked in to have the success you are expecting:

a)      What income do you desire per week?

b)      What is YOUR average income per party (not your company’s average)?

c)      What % of your parties go ahead?

d)      Now Take a) DESIRED WEEKLY INCOME & divide it by b) AVERAGE INCOME PER PARTY. Then divide that by c) % PARTIES THAT HAPPEN and presto……. That gives you the exact number of bookings you must have this week to earn your desired income.

D stands for “DESIRED BOOKINGS”

D = A ÷ B ÷ C

If you have a part number as your answer, meaning a decimal point of say 3.4, then the serious party planner would always round that up to 4 to guarantee he/she would not fall short of being able to pay for food on the table this week for the family.  It’s no good having a nice big juicy steak for dinner if you can’t afford to put your favourite gravy or sauce on the top, is it?  It just doesn’t taste the same.  So don’t cheat your own family out of their favourite gravy, OK?

Let me talk you through a live example.

So, let’s say Angela is our consultant.  She works in skincare and does purifying facials for women who are over-worked, stressed out and in need of a little pampering with friends.

a)      Angela’s DESIRED INCOME is $500/week

b)      Angela’s AVERAGE INCOME PER PARTY is $150

c)      Angela’s % of PARTIES THAT HAPPEN is 80%

Remember, D stands for “DESIRED BOOKINGS”

D = A ÷ B ÷ C

So Angela’s DESIRED BOOKINGS per week is A ($500) ÷ B ($150) ÷ C (80%) = 4.16

Because that is a fraction of a number, what will we do?  We’ll round it up so we can afford the gravy on top of our juicy steak!

Goal Building Blocks

Now, Angela’s DESIRED BOOKINGS per week is 5.  It’s fool-proof!  It’s science or mathematics at work if you like.  It’s a formula based on her own true average performances.  Angela is now confidently informed of what her goal is.  This is the starting point for her.  Angela is now ready to work on her strategy and to take action in her business this week.

So, the real question is…. What’s “D” for YOU?  What’s YOUR “DESIRED BOOKINGS PER WEEK?”  I’m going to give you a minute to do that right now.  Grab a calculator and go do it.  You are going to feel great once you’ve figured out this piece of the puzzle.
