What a turnaround ♥♥ Find out what I said when my host wanted to cancel her party booking, but I turned it into 3 new party bookings.
You know the phone call….. 9:30am on the day of the party, my phone rings and the name flashing on the screen is that of my hostess booked in to host her party TONIGHT. Never a good sign! I’d just talked to her the day before and completed her hostess coaching, so what was this phone call all about?
I already knew what she was going to say. My mind was instantly scrambling of what I was going to say to save the booking. Ready, set, go! I swipe my i-phone to answer the call with my usual bright and cheery voice.
“I don’t have enough people coming to the party tonight!” my hostess said. “Mum talked to a couple ladies this morning who were supposed to come and now they can’t make it, so can we change it to next week?”
OMG…. I had already arranged my day around this party. I had organised deliveries just before her party to make the most of my time in the local area. I was not happy. I decided then and there that I would prefer to make a little bit of money that day than no money.
So, I said something like this, “Oh, I’ve already organised other appointments around your party for today and it really is too late to cancel at such late notice. Tell me who IS able to come so far?”
“Just my mum, a couple friends and my next-door neighbour,” she says.
“You have 4 people coming?????” I ask, in a slightly excited way.
“Yeah,” she sighs.
“4 people is a great start! I’ve done heaps of parties with only 3 or 4 people there and it’s quite often a fun, casual get-together. You have a couple of options, it’s up to you, here’s what you could do. I’m going to be in the area tonight anyway, so why don’t we still have the party even if it’s just 2 or 3 people, you’ll still get your free gift as a thank you for being my hostess and if you wish you can then re-book to have another party where the others can come and you get to choose ANOTHER free gift again PLUS you’ll receive a credit voucher to spend at your next party as your booking reward! So, is it OK if I still come over tonight and we’ll just have a little get-together?”
“Oh, OK,” she says. “See you tonight.”
I wasn’t sure how happy she was at the end of that phone call. But I went through my day as planned, checking my phone several times half-expecting a text message to come through saying there’s just no way that the party can happen today, but no such message came through so I went ahead with my travels and deliveries as planned, then showed up for her party and was happy to see another car parked in the street as I pulled up, hoping that car was owned by a guest.
By the end of the night, these were the results:

I did also offer the business opportunity to each of the ladies, but didn’t quite pull off the hat-trick there to be able to make this the perfect story, but anyway, I at least tried! You just never know who WILL say YES to the business opportunity, so over the years, I’ve learned to just offer it to everyone and see what happens.
I’m sharing this with you, because I know it would have been so easy just to give in to her first phone call and say, “Ok, let’s re-book you for a new date” and then on that next date quite often that hostess would then cancel anyway, so what did I have to lose? NOTHING! I was nervous as I came back with the response to suggest we go ahead with the party, but now, looking back, IT WAS WORTH IT! And as I go and do those other 3 bookings in the next 2-3 weeks that all came from this one party, I will smile to myself quietly as I think of where they all came from! Funny how this business works at times! We learn to get a little more brave every step of the way, don’t we?
